Makes 8 cups of jam
Ingredients
3 pounds plums (weight with pits removed)
6 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon cloves
Directions
Prepare 8 8-ounce jars for canning.
Put washed, chopped, pitted plums in food processor or blender and puree.
Pour plum puree into large stockpot. Stir in sugar and spices, then bring to boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 5 minutes, continuing to stir constantly to avoid burning the jam.
Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Process in water bath for 10 minutes. Store in cool dark place until ready to use; when opened, store in refrigerator.
Plain Plum Jam Alternative
Follow all instructions as above, but leave out spices.
Thank you for this! I used my tried and true plum jam recipe using pectin, and then added your spices and the result was brilliant. I plan to share jars with friends for the holidays and look forward to eating the jam served over cream cheese with crackers. Highly recommend giving this recipe a try if you’re bored with the same old jam recipes!
This is really tasty. My Italian plums set up just fine with the recipe as written. I also think it’s a great idea to puree the fruit before cooking. I also used that for a plum sauce recipe I made also–no need to risk using an immersion blender in a pot of boiling fruit!
